The Council
What we do
- Glyn Ceiriog CC pays for the youth provision provided by WCBC Youth Service that meets at the Pavillion weekly
- Is responsible for the upkeep of the playing field and ensuring that it is ‘fit for purpose’ which includes grass cutting and ensuring that the equipment is safe for use
- Was successful in securing a grant to cover the cost of the bike track which is well used by children and young people and ensuring that it is safe
- In collaboration with Clwb Rygbi Bro Gwernant secured a grant from the Police Crime Commissioner, was successful in securing donations from local businesses and individuals to build the Pavilion on the playing field and is used by the Rugby Club and Youth Service. The Council also meets the cleaning cost and maintenance of the building
- Glyn Ceiriog CC is also responsible for the public toilets on the Cross which includes caretaking and maintenance cost as well as responsibility for utility bills
- The council also manages Garth Cemetary including grass cutting
- Glyn Ceiriog CC also makes substantial donations to local charities and associations which improves the quality of life of its residents of e.g. New GVT; Insitute and Canolfan Ceiriog receive regular donations and more recently the Council has made a substantial donation to local National Eisteddfod fund as this year it is to be held in Wrexham
- The Council employs the Community Agent who works with residents over 55 years old with the aim of improving the wellbeing of individuals
- The Council funds the Christmas Lunch held at the Canolfan and was attended by over 50 residents last year as well as supporting the Santa run enjoyed by the children of the community
- In partnership with the other two valley Councils Glyn Ceiriog Community Council also funds the monthly CAB sessions held alternatively at the Canolfan and Oliver Jones Hall
- Any new planning applications are considered by the Council and whether WCBC’s Planning Department should approve or object an application
- The Council also works closely with North Wales Police
- From April 2025 the Council has agreed to meet the cost of WCBC monthly mobile library service room rental
